No May honeypot report
Grafana, the program we use to visualize the data from our honeypots, updated to version 8. This update was an unmitigated disaster. It changed the time format of the data received from the MySQL (and similar) output plugins and broke all visualization panels that relied on the old format.
Normally, when you release obviously broken code, you are supposed to either fix it quickly or to revert to the old, working version. We expected that the Grafana developers would release a fix within days.
However, they dragged their feet for more than a month, the released "fix" was inadequate (it required me to create some kind of data transformation, which it is not clear to me from the available documentation how to do).
Eventually, I lost patience with this crap, restored the old version and panels from backups, blocked the updates of this package and vowed to never, ever update it again.
Previous updates kept breaking small things or making annoying modifications to the user interface, but nothing so catastrophically bad as version 8, so I was tolerating them. Well, no more.
Unfortunately, meanwhile the month had passed and we could not produce our monthly report.
First, the data from our Telnet & SSH honeypot. Switzerland is at the top spot this month, which is unusual, followed by Ireland and the USA:
